Citigroup sophomore rotational program

Anyone heard anything back from them? I've already been rejected from JPM Honors and ignored by MS Rotational - the HR people I talked to told me to just apply for the Spring Weeks intended for UK students instead. I thought I had been rejected from Citigroup as well. However, I called a contact I have at Citi and she told me that they would start interviewing after the deadline (Feb 15th), so I might still have a chance. Has anyone been given an interview time?

This is pretty much my last chance since I'm guessing I've gotten dinged by BSC ( haven't heard back since I interviewed with them week of Feb. 4th).

Dinged List: BSC, UBS, JPM

Last Chance: Citi ( a bank that's pretty much been dinging itself for over 6 months )lol.

Last year's stats from one of the recruiters in charge of the program:

800 applied 150 phone interviews 60 superdays ~30 interns

That was only the first year of the program so they expect a lot more to apply this year while still maintaining the same amount of interviews. Also, non targets have little to no chance.

I was rejected from JPM also. They didn't take very many. I actually went to their super day! And I did well in all of my interviews. Connected well with all of my interviews.. seriously.. still got a rejection. =/...

I sent an e-mail to an HR contact to send her an updated copy of my resume and she seemed very informative and I go to a non-targeted school, so I think they do at least look at our resumes.

Rejected. Sad, but not surprised; I'm not doing a related or even quantative subject, I don't go to an American college, and, with over 1000 applicants for 30 places (so the rejection e-mail said), they were bound to find better candidates. Congratulations to all those who were invited to interview.

does anyone know what to expect for the phone interviews? what types of questions are they going to ask? im guessing it will be mostly fit.. and its only 20 mins long.

any suggestions/tips?

my friend got Citi last year..she said it was really chill. but they do ask your knowledge of the markets. much less finance/financial accounting, more along the lines of how much you know about what's going on, and how it affects IBD.

Somewhat disappointing.. didn't even get a rejection email. I thought I had decent qualifications besides the fact that I have little to no connections at Citi and am from a non target. I have consulting experience with a very reputable BB equity research firm and a summer at a top F500. Not to mention being in one of the nations top honors accounting programs. Also have been going through a financial modeling and LBO program on my own time. Oh... well.

Congratulations to all those that recieved an interview and goodluck! May I live vicariously through you.. haha!

Just had a superday at a MM.. crossing my fingers!

Does anyone know how soon we will hear back after the interview? Do they wait until everyone has been interviewed, as some have it on the 27th while others have it as late as early march?

Just had my interview.

Guys make sure you realize that the time is eastern. Living in Texas, I thought my interview was at 11, when it ended up being 10, so that caught me off guard.

On top of that my phone went out of batteries during the interview, so I had to fn sprint to an outlet and call again which probably means I was dinged. It's too bad too, because my actual interview went really well.

I just had the interview.. very nice lady. I got questions like: Walk me through your resume... tell me about your experience at your last internship... tell me about an event that affects the economy.. why Citi? .. explain IB to a nonbusiness person.

She told me desicions will be available on Friday.

good luck

Interviews conclude tomorrow. So I would expect people that make second round to be notified Thurs, and reject emails to go out Fri.

Was anyone else's interview really short? The interviewer called me earlier than our scheduled time b/c a meeting came up. We ended up speaking for around ~15mins..she got through all the questions previous people listed though.

That is definitely not true. Some people were interviewed on Wed. My lady said they would meet on Thurs to decide and we should hear by Fri.

Just got a call...made it to superday lol...

Regarding to what someone said about Citi having 30 spots for this program, the lady I talked to said only 5 actually...so I'm not sure who's right or whether I heard wrong because I seriously had bad reception.

As always: advice???

Maybe that rejection letter has not been revised from last year?! My friend got rejected and he said the letter does not have any numbers.

Actually I'm pretty sure the number cannot be 30 because they have about 3-4 recruiters doing the interviews and each interviewer picks 4 people to go to superday. So, it can't be 30 although I want it to be 30 lol...

my interviewer also told me there are about 30 spots...m8875, maybe she said 25 or 35 and all you heard was the 5

^Do you know how many will go to superday? I'm pretty sure today she said 4 people from the lot she interviewed made it to superday. There were only 3-4 recruiters doing the interviews right? at least as I remember from the web sign up page for phone interview.

well, when i signed up online for the phone interview, i thought i saw more than 4 recruiters interviewing. im not sure though. we'll see.

anyone know whether they give out all invitations at the same time, or whether its more spread out? do they give out nos right away and then wait on some maybes (considering how its already pretty late in the recruiting process and people may decline going to the superday). any ideas?

I was gone for the past few hrs and I got a voicemail 5hrs ago that I got into final rounds. What dates do people have? March 14th & March 28th? Two dates right?

I just don't like being led on by secretaries in HR. The woman asked me absolutely nothing technical during the interview and seemed very positive following it, so I don't know how she can decide who to move on.

She called me last evening saying: Hi, this is --- from Citi, do you have a moment to speak, then finally told me that I had been dinged. Too bad I don't have connections at this bank or I wouldn't tolerate HR bullshit.

Hahahahaha

I personally think that it was nice of Citi that it cared to call you and give you the decision. You should have known in advance that first round interviews are generally comprised of fit/personality/get-to-know-you questions.

You applied to Citigroup's Sophomore Rotational Program, and the program is designed to educate you. I wouldn't be surprised if final-round interviews are also mostly fit questions.

I look forward to seeing those of you who are invited for the final-round interviews soon.

Wow omega. First of all, HR recruiters are not secretaries. They are trained to conduct interviews such that applicants who move on in the process are a) qualified, and b) can function well in the work environment of their firm (i.e. fit). So yes, personality does matter a lot. If a person can do the work but can't relate to other employees or their clients, the firm does not benefit from his/her employment.

Secondly, you are a sophomore in college. You can't say that you know what it is that the banks need or want in an intern. The process is so competitive that I bet half the time it's totally arbitrary who moves on and who doesn't. I would say that probably everyone who was invited for a first round phone interview is qualified and capable of doing the work and making the most of the experience, so personality is a good way for recruiters to differentiate between all the candidates.

Whoa...whoa! I never actually reply to comments like these but this is too much. By no means am I being emotional but I think it shows here why you didn't get the call back. I think you have shown enough immaturity and you don't handle rejections well. Most of the time there are simply too many qualified candidates that it's all luck.

Ok so I'm sorry for that rant. I think I read in one of your posts that you got GS spring program as did I. I'm sure you wouldn't mind working for GS. Did you know that they give top performers summer internships? I'm sure you wouldn't care in the future whether you got into Citi or not.

Also, GS interviewers were HR also...Are you implying that you won't accept that position because HR determined acceptance or maybe since they are HR, they probably made a mistake in hiring you? I don't think so. Also, fyi, the GS program will partly be led by HR. If you have something against HR, quit the program now.

I had maids and I don't think HR is equivalent them!

got a rejection call tonight.. the HR person left me a very nice voicemail. im totally fine with the rejection because i have other opportunities for this summer.

good luck everyone else!

has anyone got the email from the travel department yet? I confirmed my interview for next friday. Im hoping to make my arrangements as soon as possible.

I haven't gotten my results either, although I'm not expecting an offer.

I wonder if the timing has to do with specific HRs reporting later, mind pming or posting who your hr was?

hey guys. i just wanted to tell you guys that i got the offer and i accepted. good luck you guys that are interviewing in a couple of weeks!

Hi i finally found a reason to create an account and make a post on wallstreetoasis. Definitely a great site! I received and offer for final rounds for Citi too. I was reading through this forum and Congratulations to Danino. I just wanted to hear feedback on the type of questions they ask. Has anybody else interviewed yet?

while i didn't get an technical questions- some others did. It depends on what set of interviewers you receive. Really. And it also depends on what classes you've taken.

maybe hearing back from Citi isn't a big deal to you mrlover1, but hey- this is one of those competitive sophomore programs. Participating in a program like this your sophomore year is a very good way to set yourself up for ur junior summer.

Received an offer! rsb1234 I don't know which round you were in but in last week Friday's superday I was surrounded by high quality of people. Most of them were Ivy league students 2 Harvard, 3 cornell, 4 Upenn, 4 stanford 2 columbia, 1 princeton, 1 yale, 2 umich 1 villanova, and a few other non target schools who had excellent students at their respective schools.

yes i was there with you and i got the offer also but to clarify, i think in the end, schools dont mean nething so mentioning a bunch of good schools doesn't necessarily signify good people

nevertheless i agree that the final round applicants were indeed strong but i still think that the program is less competitive than junior internships simply because the people who drop resumes are sophomores with less experience rather than juniors

Jesus christ, i heard there were 30 spots and like what 10 people from WSO got them. 1/3 of Citi SRP is WSO members. Thats actually quite insane. out of the 3000 apps, 1/3 of the offers WSO members! Ok im done. Enjoy.

what do you mean you spoke with them? I thought they were the ones that were supposed to contact you within the next week or so about your status? I guess it might help to contact that name on the bottom of the letter/email, but it might make you look annoying.

Just wondering, why did you call them?

As far as I know, there is no information on the Citigroup website regarding their Sophomore Rotational Program.

I'm from a non-target with a 3.9 GPA.

We will be notified of our status by the first week of March so it can happen any day now.

i'm still waiting on Citigroup for this rotational program but i do have an interview for another bank coming up.

what school do you go to and what is your gpa?

It is tough to get into just one of these programs, but you have been selected for interviews at both...pretty damn cool.

I'm assuming most people have been contacted today for a second round interview. But just out of curiousity what other programs did every1 apply to?... i applied to a million programs with no luck probably because i'm a sophomore...are there any other sophomore programs out there??

Corproate and investment Banking is better, eheh. It will be tougher to get, but might give you a slight (perhaps not) edge over someone with the Rotational Program on their resume.

Either way, you are in great shape and now study like hell for your interview.

so it was for the sophomore rotational program, eheh?

I think you were the only one that was contacted for the sophomore rotational program so far because gomi, Surfmv, bullmetaljacket and myself haven't heard.

The first email said we would hear by the first week of March about our status, regardless if we were selected for an interview or not.

Tomorrow is March 1st so it should be by Friday of this week.

I actually have a friend who goes to a non-target who had his sophomore rotational phone interview today...he said he was contacted the same day I was...

The recruiter I spoke to said to expect decisions from first round phone interviews by next week

I dunno how the process works though...perhaps they contact people for phone interviews in batches? I dunno...

are all of Citi's first round interviews for the soph program phone interviews? eheh, what questions was your friend asked? my friend is from a non-target and has a phone interview tomorrow..perhaps i can help him out.

yeah today they sent out the rejection emails. I unfortunately was the unlucky recipient of one.

I believe that everyone who did not get an e-mail the day that you did to set up an interview eheh, got rejected.

I'm praying like no tomorrow Eheh. I sent that e-mail that I PMed you about.

I'm going to use the enthusiastic and hungry approach from now on.

It will be absolutely mind boggling if I get this. Not only will this summer be incredible, but I will be set up for next summer and will not have any trouble landing interviews at major BBs for internships next summer.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for someone like me and I'm going to make the best of it.

I used "its" instead of "it" in one sentence but I doubt the guy notices. Even if he does, I went the extra mile in the follow up so it should clearly help me out.

eheh congrats....i got one to...my superday is the 16th...anyone know what type of questions they are going to be asking? I dont know how technical they are going to be being that this is a sophomore program.
