Cold email question- appropriate responses?

Hi everyone,

I've been networking and sending cold emails to bankers for a summer analyst position for next summer, and I had one minor question that's been on my mind for a little bit. When replying to response emails from analysts, is it appropriate to respond with "Hey (name)" as opposed to using "Hello"? I've been using "Hey" for the most part, but I'm concerned some people may view that as informal and unprofessional in some way. I just think using "Hello" sounds too robotic.

Thoughts on this?

Saying "Hi" is perfectly fine. Usually, after a couple emails, the analyst will drop the salutation. I would definitely not start your first email with "Hey."

In general, if you feel like something is too informal for a situation, it probably is. I learned the hard way that it's important to always err on the side of polish and professionalism.

Maximum effort.
