CommLaw vs Co-op (NOT finance)

Hi all,

Was wondering whether it would be better to pursue CommLaw or accounting Co-op? I know a finance and banking Co-op would be better than accounting, but what do BBs think of accounting - is it viewed less favourably than CommLaw?

Thanks!

Depends at what uni, I think CommLaw at a GO8 probably held in higher regard than other degrees

I appreciate the tag. I refrained from commenting because I think it is concerning Australia. There, most people obtain law degrees as a graduate degree, some still do as undergraduates so it changes the calculus of this somewhat. Also the nature of firm finances/ownership is very different there, the US is behind on that and catching up slowly. Lawyers with financial savvy in Sydney can do very well.

I assume you are referring to UNSW Co-op? It depends what you are solving for. As a former Finance Co-op, I highly recommend the Co-op program at UNSW but if your objective is to get into a BB, then any Co-op program other than Finance wilI limit your ability to do IB internships which is the highest predictor of success in getting into banking. On the whole though, I wouldn't favour someone with a Comm/Law degree over Accounting Co-op all else being equal (although some individuals may have biases).
