Commuting into NYC?
Hey guys,
I'm going to be interning this summer in midtown, and currently trying to figure out my housing situation. I know a lot of people recommend NYU dorms, but the one I was looking at is full already.
I've been debating a few options: - Sublet an apartment or AirBnb in the city, preferably within walking distance of the office - Live w/ a friend in the Bronx who is also interning in midtown, commute every day
The second option would likely be much cheaper but unsure about having to commute. Any advice? Thanks..
If it’s in IB try and stay in Manhattan, don’t know when y’all have to stay late.
You can also do Long Island City for the summer. Easy access to Midtown but lacking social scene. Do it, get the offer, and find a more fun place when you go full time
I’d try to avoid bronx for sure during the internship. Annoyingly far, especially if you’re in IB and working stupid hours.
Interested in this as well. Do you all think it's possible to live in Jersey City and commute in and out of Manhattan? I'm an incoming full-time analyst, and the hours at my bank don't seem too bad (I remember seeing the office pretty empty by midnight every day during the summer).
The PATH only goes along 6th ave so unless you work at BofA it's not very convenient. Just dorm in the city. IIRC you get paid something like 6-7K during your internship, so you'll have plenty of money to cover for the housing
Can you take the PATH from bronx into midtown?
DB, GS, Citi, and RBC as well. Probably a few others. Can get off at the World Trade Center.
Any advice for dorming in the city? NYU already full - trying to find other options
There are two brand new buildings in Brooklyn heights that have dorms and are not full. It’s called “FOUND Study.” Could be an option. I’d check it out before I’d commute.
If I'm interning in Midotwn that would still be a decent commute no? Not to mention very expensive
It's one stop into Brooklyn. Will take you a half hour from door to door.
Jersey City, Hoboken, and Long Island City are your best options outside of Manhattan itself for banking.
JC in particular if you work in mid-town or downtown. Much better bang for your buck, nicer buildings, and save 5% in taxes annually. Same applies to Hoboken.
Is Jersey City relatively safe/clean compared to Manhattan? I lived near Penn Station this summer and man that was not a pretty sight to say the least.
I have no complaints. I've lived in NYC (FiDi), San Francisco, and now Jersey City.
JC best bet
