Confidential Surveys
Do you guys take the confidential surveys HR sends out regarding your feelings about the company/comp etc?
I have one in my inbox I want to take, and although it says it’s confidential, I really don’t trust it. I usually never do these but want to do this one.
Are they really confidential? Has anyone heard of anyone getting burned by being too honest?
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's understandable to be cautious about the confidentiality of HR surveys. While these surveys are often presented as confidential, the skepticism around them isn't unfounded. There have been numerous discussions and anecdotes shared within the Wall Street Oasis community that highlight a general mistrust towards the confidentiality promised by HR in various scenarios, not just surveys.
For instance, in the context of HR's role and behavior, there's a thread titled "Why is HR not your friend?" on Wall Street Oasis that sheds light on the perception of HR departments. It discusses instances where individuals felt that HR did not act in the employees' best interests, which can contribute to the skepticism around the confidentiality of HR surveys.
Moreover, the "Be Careful what you write to HR (Real Life Example)" thread provides a real-life example of how communication with HR, even in a supposedly confidential or informal context, can have unintended consequences. This further reinforces the idea that one should proceed with caution when dealing with HR-related matters, including confidential surveys.
While there's no direct evidence or specific thread discussing someone getting burned by being too honest in a confidential survey, the general sentiment and discussions around HR's role and actions suggest that it's wise to be cautious. If you decide to participate in the survey, consider providing feedback that is constructive and professional, avoiding overly negative or controversial comments that could potentially be traced back to you or cause issues if the confidentiality were ever breached.
Remember, the perception of confidentiality and the actual practice can vary greatly between companies and even within different departments of the same company. If you have specific concerns, it might be worth seeking advice from trusted colleagues or reflecting on the company culture to gauge how best to proceed.
