Covert Informants at EB

At an EB in NY and Management has covert informants sprinkled throughout the organization who feed up relevant information such as sentiment on bonuses, how busy people are and future career plans. We don’t know who exactly these informants are but the few we’ve been able to identify are individuals you’d consider to have a social relationship with in a workplace context (Grabbing lunch together, drinks, same circle at a holiday party). In return for this service to Management, they clearly receive favorable treatment (Compensation, work load, time away etc.).

Does this take place at other firms?

How best to identify who these people are?

Is our firm incredibly toxic for having this structure? This is a firm people salivate over on this forum btw.
