COVID + High Workload Triggering Depression

Hi all,

Currently a 3rd year analyst in an M&A group (focused on a specific sector) that is getting absolutely crushed. Being cooped up in the same room, waking up at 8:30am and working till 3am daily, and working weekends is becoming absolutely demoralizing. The banter and messing around with the bullpen made the experience enjoyable but now the only interactions I typically have being on Zoom are taking a toll. If anyone else in the same boat, how are you taking care of yourselves and staying sane with these hours / terrible conditions? Senior bankers are definitely taking advantage of knowing that we are much more accessible and more than likely near our computers 24/7... Thanks for reading, any advice would be appreciated!

I’m a VP and honestly I’m starting to lose my mind too - so I can only imagine what analysts are going through.

i honestly think you just have to force yourself to be away from the computer at times. If you get pinged, just tell your team you had to step away for a few. What’s the worse that could happen?

Go for a run or bike ride.

Do you have core group of friends you’re “quarantining” with? Hang out and lean on them.

I think even switching locations for a period of time would be huge to break the monotony. Get a house somewhere with some friends even if you’ll end up working all the time.

I know I have to get out of NYC once it gets cold. The isolation + cold will drive me insane
