Never really felt the need for a workout as insane as crossfit. I always found that if a workout is too painful, I'll just end up not doing it.

I lift heavy 4x per week for 30-45 minutes and eat healthily; it is enough to maintain ~10% bodyfat.

Still, it seems like a good way to get a good workout quickly. Probably makes sense if you participate in a sport that requires some endurance.

I intelligently program my workouts because I don't want a SLAP tear or rhabdo. Thanks.

Damn Crossfit is always getting a lot of hate. WAHHH I might get hurt/piss blood. I personally only have heard of one guy getting Rhabdo and he went from the couch to WOD. The risk of injury can definitely be minimized.

I definitely agree, it's hard to stick to. That's why I wanted to send out this post. Maybe to set up a WSO Crossfit group for mutual motivation.

analyst-therapist: I like the Arrested Development reference.

I assure you that my decision not to do CrossFit is not because of perceived difficulty, but rather idiotic programming.

Extremely technical lifts that require optimal coordination and functioning of muscles, and have serious potential for injury if fucked up, should not be performed in a muscular endurance workout. But in CrossFit they are.

Muscle-ups, chin-ups and pull-ups should not be kipped because of the risk of tearing a SLAP. But in CrossFit they are.

If box jumps are to be performed for reps, the descent following the jump is supposed to be a slow step down to the ground, not a hop. But in CrossFit it's a hop and that's why many achilles have been torn.

Fair enough. I've heard this argument before and agree to an extent . I'm not one of the Crossfit zombies that are out there. No kipping on pull ups and chin ups? I agree with no kip on a muscle up. Never heard of a ruptured achilles tendon from a box jump, but Google documents a few cases. I'll ask my trainer. Thanks.

I see you've never played a sport at a competitive level.

Anyways, I love crossfit because it's a lot like the workouts I did with my college team. Makes me feel like I'm legitimately doing something again besides lazily throwing up a couple hundred pounds with terrible form and pretending I'm in good shape.

I have. No need to dish out insults here. Let's keep this at least somewhat civil.

Just because your coach prescribes a bunch of random shit that "simulates" the strength and anaerobic requirements does not mean he knows what the fuck he is doing. Look up Mike Linn at UCLA. Are you telling me that all athletics coaches hold their seats because of merit and knowledge of strength and conditioning, and NOT politics?

I didn't know ultimate frisbee required a lot of dynamic lifts, or training for that matter

I was thinking about joining the Naval Acad and have done this a little bit, and I have to say its somewhat of an overkill,

you want a good workout that has helped me lose 30ish pounds here it is: ( diet is most of it though)

.

try it

I want a lady on the street, but a freak in the bed, Go Bucks!!

I'll never understand why some people get so passionate about crossfit. Doing highly technical lifts like cleans for reps is plain retarded to me especially with some local crossfit affiliates saying things like "technique doesn't matter as long as you move the weight."

If you want to get ripped with low body fat, lift heavy and watch your diet.

If you want endurance in whatever sport you do, do more of that sport. Cross-training isn't as beneficial as some people think it is.
