Degrees: Data Science vs Economics

While I know networking, gpa, and experience are all more important, I'm conflicted on what degree I should pursue. I am interested in both economics and data science at Cal; I can really see myself doing either. The data science degree does allow me to pursue an emphasis in economics, as well as business analytics if I wanted. And pursuing an economics degree would allow me to take more business courses at Haas. Given that my goal is EB (in SF), would a data science degree work in finance? I'm a bit worried that an economics degree will not be competitive enough since I'll be competing with Haas. I'm really unsure how data science is viewed by employers since it is an emerging field.
