*desperately need advice* Is transferring to "Re-boot" your GPA a dumb idea?
Hey guys, first of thanks for reading. If anyone can provide some advice on my situation it would be much appreciated.
My situation is as follows, I'm currently entering my third year of university with a GPA of ~3.0 ish at a target school. Long story short, I had family issues a while back that took me away from studying. My goal is to work in ibd of course and naturally my gpa will be a draw back.
I believe my work experience is somewhat relevant, I've done 3 interns so far in equity research, PWM and, DCM. I will be doing working in a listed firm's dcm / corporate advisory team this summer. Understanding that GPA would be a concern, and knowing I can do better if given a second chance without the family burden, I actually went back and reapplied to uni at the beginning of my 2nd year. I now have an offer for a slightly worse school (by global rankings, albeit still target).
I was initially very keen on taking the uni offer, but now I'm not so sure. People will naturally ask why the hell I took 6 years to wrap up uni and that might be even worse for me. Or, on the other hand, it might be better given I'll have a higher GPA and therefore access to more opportunities; these may include better b school prospect, masters, exit ops etc.
Ultimately, I'm unsure what the right choice is and would appreciate any insight. If you read this far: thank you. Those who reply: you're a saint. Thanks.
Down the road, you'll look back and realize how incredibly little GPA matters.
It comes down to likability and soft skills that get you places.
Then again, it's different for everyone.
