Did I Make a Mistake Taking a Job in NYC?
I recently accepted a lateral to an EB in NY from a reputable shop in the Midwest where COVID was not as big of a problem. Thought it was a good career move but seeing a lot of posts about the state of NY and wondering if the switch is actually worth it. Don’t need to move for awhile given WFH but those who are out there can probably speak better to it.
Eventually this storm will end and your move will probably pay off. I would keep thinking in long terms in your career. Stay safe out there and keep grinding.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that new york will come back. The only people permanently leaving are ones who were probably going to leave soon anyways. Going into work will always prove to be more beneficial than working from home so companies will eventually require people to at least come into the office a few days a week.
This forum is full of hyperbole and melodrama... New York will be fine in a few months
That's what we said in March
Once a vaccine hits the market NYC will bounce back rapidily
Not to be a pain, but how did you come across the lateral opportunity/secure it?

Not only will NY be fine eventually, but it's really not that bad now. Things close down earlier but there are lots of people in the streets throughout the day / early evening, restaurants are open. Tons of people go to the park. Pretty much everything that's going to open is open now. It's just really not that horrible anymore.
