I'm a sophomore attending a semi target school. I'm Asian, which makes me disqualify for diversity events as I understand. But in my case, I'm the first middle schooler, high schooler, and college student in my family. soooooooo... do I count as diversity?

Sorry brah, as an Asian male you are fairly high on the theoretical dominance heiarchy, even higher than white females. The left loves grouping people into neat identity buckets and determining reactions to a given situation based in where they lie in the heiarchy (i.e. a black female cannot be racist due to her low position in the dominance pyramid).

You do because first gen is considered diversity at many big firms. The fact you don't know that shows how little research you've done. If you've been searching for IB opportunities extensively, or even just dug around, you would've found this out. But whatever, you're already prepared to say diversity programs are the reason you can't get into IB even though it's clear you haven't been trying too hard.
Probably because of 2 reasons - 1) most Asian Americans live in liberal states (and they want to fit in!), and 2) Democrats have been successful in convincing minorities that Republicans are somehow racist.
If Asian Americans actually looked into what both parties stand for, the vast majority would probably vote Republican most of the times.

At Wells Fargo, they do include Asians in the diversity pool, and they have a very robust non-target presence. Very solid shot for next cycle if you have a strong GPA and do the work to stand out from the rest of the pool technicals-wise or resume-wise, and are a good interviewer.

I looked at their diversity posting recently, and asians weren't included. But they were last year, so maybe things changed

I mean it sucks but they can also just work hard and get the offer. I'm Asian (Indian) and managed to land multiple offers in banking and s & t.
Yeah Goldman has a first-gen program but it's not really helpful. They took practically 0 people from the diversity superday they did this year, then they pretty much gave offers to only diverse candidates in the normal SD rounds. You're not going to get two superdays at Goldman, so I and many of my friends got screwed by their school teams/the school-agnostic team.
Bank of America also counts first-gen as diversity but they don't have an actual hiring initiative for it, so if you apply to their program but you're only a first-gen then they won't accept you in the program. I know this because of many close friends who currently work there.
First-gen students really get screwed TBH. Banks should do a better job of including these people in the diversity pool, and schools should do a MUCH better job of preparing first-gen students for the rigors of recruiting. Again, many of my friends (pursuing banking, as well as many other industries) really have no idea how to recruit because they have nobody to help them.
My Goldman Sachs SD was all diversity candidates. Either I got placed in a diversity SD (even though I'm non-diversity) or they're really trying to hire more diversity.
Unless you're some obscure, under-represented Asian like Hmong then no you're going to get lumped into the non-minority pile; if you have to think about applying using diversity as a crutch, you should really think about making yourself a stronger candidate first. You're better than that. Make yourself standout; personality, grades, story, the whole package.

I'm Central Asian, have yet to meet another person of my ethnicity in banking. I'm still considered non-diversity. I don't know who the system is meant to help but its definitely not helping ethnic groups that are actually underrepresented in banking.
Yes, you are diversity. You're a first generation college student. They're considered diversity at many of the big firms.

For the purposes of recruiting? Yes. Most banks include 1st generation as one of the criteria that fulfills their diversity initiative. When you are recruiting just read the requirements for eligibility of the program to confirm; if 1st gen is included you can apply
No, but that’s actually fucked. I’m Brazilian and whiter than drywall, and many of my friends who are also in the US for school fit the same. We fall under Latino for diversity programs but i sometimes have a laugh with them bc it’s weird coming from a what most here consider the “privileged white country club background”, OCR recruiting for diversity programs help us a lot but we get a lot of people looking down at us for “ abusing” it. We got a lot of traction at these events due to our internships we Did back home (BBs freshman/sophomore year)

Just put down that you identify as a large oyster. Oyster people are extremely under represented so... You will basically count as diversity.

I used to look East Asian, but since I surf now I look more filipino cause of my tan. My brothers don't look as asian as I do. Recruiters tell me to apply as diversity because I am 1/2 latino
