Do you need computer science in IB or PE? Why?
Dear,
I am going to NYU Econ and I want to break into IB after graduation. Everybody tells me to go double major Econ and CS. Why is computer science required? Is it just because graduating with CS degree tells you put a lot of work and maybe you're smart?
Long story short, you don't. #1 Priority is to get a high GPA. If you can do it with a double major, that's even better.
Thanks!
Yea if IB is what you want, priority is gpa dude. Try and get it as high as possible.
Nope. Alt-E-S-F/T/V
Honestly might want to consider comp sci (at least minor). Know of an analyst who got fast-tracked to associate because he automated a lot of remedial work in his group (BB IB). I think the real value add isn't "Comp Sci double major" line on your resume, but having the skillset ready to deploy when (if) ever needed
If your goal is to get into IB, there is absolutely no need for compsci.. let along double major. A high GPA and internship experience is all that matters. If you can do an unpaid freshman or sophomore internship at a boutique IB or PE shop, you are already miles ahead of the competition.
Thanks! Is HF internship helpful, too? I'm interested in HF as well and breaking into buy-side after graduation. I know it's very tough, but I wanna set myself down the road as far as I can.
