Does background check extend to extracurriculars?

Hey guys,

To those of you who have went through the BB background check process, do you know if the third-party companies that they hire to run the background check verify the extracurricular experiences (dates, positions, etc.) listed on your resume?

To qualify, I'm certainly not hiding anything. Everything on my resume is 100% legit. I'm just asking because I'm trying to get all of my ducks in a row ahead of the background check process to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Thanks!

No, they don't check your ECs.

PuppyBackedSecuritiesAre you kidding? No, they don't do that. They make sure your transcript (read GPA and test scores) is reasonably close and you are still enrolled in school.
NorthSiderNo, they don't check your ECs.

from my experience, they dont even check your GPA/test scores if you provide them with a copy of the official transcripts.

actually, they cant get that information on most universities here.

however, they do ask for work references, performance report (not sure how thats called on english), and if you dont have them, for any evidence (contract/letter from hr/etc.) that can confirm the dates and everything.

In my experience, they don't ask for any performance reports from previous employers. It's a simple reference check to make sure that you worked in the postition you listed over the period you listed.

Thanks, guys. I doubt that they ask for references for a simple SA position, but I'll prepare some just in case.

Another quick question to follow up on my initial one: I led a marketing research team on the side during my freshman summer with a professor at my university. The position was unpaid, and I had the experience listed on my resume.

Should I classify it as extracurricular or work experience? Does it make a difference (e.g. will it look unnecessarily suspicious if I have it on my resume but choose to not list it on the background check form as previous work experience)? Again, I really have absolutely nothing to hide here, but I feel like every single point along the background check process that they have to verify is just an opportunity for something to go wrong (professor goes on vacation and doesn't pick up the phone, etc.). I'm extremely paranoid, haha.

Companies do not care about this stuff. Put only what is legitimate work experience on the work experience portion. No one will be spot checking every line on your resume. They do not care that much about you.

Hi, I wonder did you give the HR your HS debate team teacher contact, or the HR team used their own resource to get your teacher's number? I had a society experience and didn't get along well with all the society members and I am just worried that the HR will just randomly call a person from my society and he will talk something bad about me

They will definitely know that if you are doing the OCR thing. Chances are you cant have" five presidents in the finance club" in the same school. But otherwise dont bother.

I have being a tutor in high school on my resume. For the most part, it was organized by a teacher, or guidance counselor and on a temporary basis. I don't have a lot of their contact info besides some of the friends and teammates, and family friends that I tutored. Will this be verified?

I know the op is over a year old ... But IME for a BB PWM internship my freshman year that actually did call my high school and asked to verify that I was actually the captain of a certain ec. My old principal called me after he got the call. It wasnt the BB itself , it was a third party that they outsource their background checks to. I have never lied on a resume and had no problem but just a heads up sometimes they do check .

I have only had one internship. I just want to get all of my information in line if they do ask for it. Will they call club president's to verify membership? Will they call the people that I tutored?
