As far as I know, you have to have networked extensively with a lot of people at Qatalyst to be in their mind when a summer analyst that got an offer didn't decide to take it or if they decide they need to hire 1-2 more analysts because of increased business.

EDIT: I have heard this through the grapevine but I have not had personal experience with this. Wait for others who may have had personal experience to answer your question more thoroughly.

They hire a bunch full time for whatever reasons - from what I understand, there are just as many people joining FT as SA->return offer (a quick LinkedIn search would validate this). A lot of people who intern elsewhere in SF tech IB break in FT.

They will almost 100% have a spot open for 2020 FT as they hired a Canadian SA but with the new visa problems probably won’t be able to convert him to full time
