Driving to an interview?
So I have an interview in NYC coming up and due to other events going on I have to drive to the city rather than just take a train. I would rather drive to the outskirts of the city, park, and take a train into the city from Westchester or one of the Boroughs.
I was hoping someone would be able to suggest the easiest way to do this?
Find the closest/most convenient Metro North station in Westchester from your prior activities and take a train into Grand Central. Take subway/walk from that point.
Do all the Metro north stops in Westchester have daily parking?
I believe they do. Sometimes they tend to get crowded during the day from people who are commuting regularly from there though. You could just park in the city as the previous poster said but I personally don't like driving in the city much.
If you do decide to park at a train station make sure daily parking isn't permit only. Most of the smaller stations on the New Haven Line have permit only daily parking and you'll either get ticketed or they will tow your car. It may help if we knew what direction you were coming from.
If it were me I would just park at an ICON in the city and then just take the subway to where you need to go. Why this goal/emphasis on parking on the outskirts? Is it just to save like $10-20? If so then I think it makes sense, but for convenience's sake I would personally go with the plan I outlined above.
What's an ICON? I just didn't want to fight with traffic in the city. Never driven there and I thought this would have been easier.
It's one of the companies that operates parking garages in the city.
Driving/parking in NYC really isn't that big of a deal. If cars remained at a stand-still all day there would be a lot of out-of-work taxi drivers! Just get ready to shell out $20-50 for parking depending on how long you're staying for.
Those metro north lots fill up at 6 am with the monthly parking pass daily commuters. Drive in and park in a lot or have someone drop you off at a metro north station.
Parking is 8$ half an hour. to 30$ for 2 hrs and then taxes. It depends on the location.
Where are you commuting from? You can always park your car in Harlem(100th st) and then get down somehow haha! Or Park in the BRONX, or brooklyn right by the bridge
I'll be leaving Boston that morning and need to be in at the office by 12. I don't want to be screwing around with getting lost,or a lack of parking which may make me late.
Okay. Plan on having traffic in Hartford Area ( if you go that way), New Haven area, Bridgeport/Fairfield, Norwalk and Stamford. They are also doing construction on 95 everyday in the Norwalk and bridgeport areas. You should consider Amtrak into penn station.
If you're going to pay for parking, etc, and you're still going to end up taking a train, then I recommend you just take the Acela express from Boston to NYC (Amtrak). It's pricey, but it will get you to NYC faster than any other method, and you won't have to worry about traffic. And trust me, I've had to deal with traffic during a drive between CT and NYC for an interview, and it added a full hour to my commute.
Me and my car will be in Boston but I'm not from Boston and will need to head home after the interview. If I wasn't going to be out of town in the in the first place I would have just made it simple and taken the Amtrak and I live to far away to just be dropped off at a train in time.
