It seems like everything I read about Technology M&A is based out of SF. Is it possible to focus on technology M&A but be based in New York? If so, is that more commonly done through finding a tech industry coverage group in New York or just join the M&A function? I want to focus on business to business technology companies. Any idea what IBs are best for this?

MS has a tech group in NYC solely focused on east coast tech, mainly IT services, etc. GS TMT has a small tech practice in NYC; think it's 1-2 MDs. both have SF / Menlo group that are 100% dedicated to Tech.
EVR Tech is great if you're more interested on the IC/IT side vs the FB/TWTRs of the world.
