ECHELON PARTNERS REPUTATION & DEALS OFFERS

Hey guys I haven't seen anything on WSO on this firm for at least a decade. Perhaps stuff has changed. I am currently going through recruiting process with them and I wanted to know if anyone had info on if they have gotten any deals done (aside from coronavirus months) recently. Are they still just a wealth management/consulting/banking joke wish wash firm?

Would advisory at a MM public accounting firm be a better gig?

They're FIG focused, and focus on the RIA space. It's consolidating and very active at the moment, but it is a niche space, and the deals you would be working on there are not going to be making the front page of the WSJ. Their tombstones are on their website, and the MFO deal they worked on closed beginning of this year (Cerity/Sullivan). I work at a "competitor", Echelon is somewhat known and middle of the road in the space and I'd imagine they are currently pretty active, but the space is not really well known. Happy to answer any more specific questions if you have. Feel free to PM.

Sentiment on them has not really changed.  You'd get a solid intro to banking and a hands on experience at the junior level but it's niche.  Hard sell to a pure M&A group given the modelling is limited for RIAs (business model is basically AUM x Fee Rate = Revenue, less comp, less opex = EBITDA; majority of the work is based on the AUM roll-forward and the model is typically focused on P&L builds).

I ended up lateralling to a solid MM shop in a coverage group as did most of the people I worked with that wanted to leave.  Was not really difficult but the recruiting market was vastly different than what it is now.  I am also on the east coast and admittedly not familiar with west coast recruiting.

I know it's been a while since this thread. I'm looking into Echelon Partners and since you work/worked at a competitor I wanted to know if would you consider Echelon a good stepping stone for solid MM IB roles in LA (such as HL M&A). Thanks

I'd do a LinkedIn search and see where the former analysts ended up. You should be able to prove out the thesis.
