Ego Punch
Moving out of finance to work directly for a company and am struggling with the ego punch. It was great to say I work for XYZ and know people/parents would think/say “oh wow he works for xyz”. I want to get over this because I know it’s the right decision for me but it’s really bothering me. Anyone else ever struggle with this?
You could always become one of those asshats who lists “Ex-JP Morgan” “Ex-McKinsey” on their LinkedIn headline years after leaving.
Seen a guy today who has legitimately put “ex-Deloitte”. Worse? He’s put “HBS Alumni” after doing a two week online degree. Fuck me.
I understand this I was at a top hedge fund in NYC then moved to a no-name company back home in middle America. All my friends in NYC think I'm an idiot, but I couldn't be happier.
Don’t worry about what other people think, do what you enjoy, and what aligns with your long term goals.
You sound like the definition of a hardo
bump
