Email etiquette for cc-ing

Monkeys,

So I just changed jobs from consulting to PE recently. This is not the focus of my post though, my question to you monkeys is: what is appropriate etiquette for copying your team (VP, Assoc, Analyst)?

I was groomed to believe always cc analyst through VP on everything and to not cc would be the exception, but maybe that was just consulting. One of my new VPs (I’m a pre-mba associate) doesn’t copy the team (team previously just an analyst and VP) on anything so the team is not well informed, slow to respond, and inefficient. I don’t think they realized it was a problem until I joined and insisted on including the rest of the team. Three months later it’s still an issue. Recently the VP said it would be a waste of the team’s time. However, I feel that should be up to me to decide, if I think it’s worthless I simply hit ‘delete’ but the absence of information is what kills me. Should I elevate it to the MD? How can you do your job if you don’t know every single nuance of every deal/project you’re on. Thoughts?
