It's not that difficult. A short message suffices and you're not obligated to provide details. I just hit up my staffer and sent her a short message along the lines of
Hey XXXX,
I wanted to let you know that I've accepted a new role and I am putting in my two week notice as of today.
I greatly appreciate all the experience/opportunities that the team has given me and I hope we can keep in touch .
Happy to give more details (only say this if you actually are; I was pretty tight with the team, but just didn't want to make email too long) if you have any questions.
Please let me know if there's anything that I need to prepare in advance for my exit .

Funnily, I actually sent this after I had to directly tell my MD in-person that I'll be leaving because he was giving me a promotion without knowing I had a different role lined up. Hope this helps.

1) First tell your staffer in person before you send an email. Ask them if he/she is ok with you telling the news to individuals, etc. Tell the staffer you will work on delegating your work to others over the next two weeks to make sure nothing slips through the cracks.
2) Then send the letter to the staffer.
