Forget the hours... Can we talk about how rough this seditary lifestyle is?
Guys I served in the military and then was an athlete in college. I was so active for the last decade.
Now I'm an analyst. This is terrible my gains are wasting away and I feel awful only being able to work out 4x a week after spending 12+ hours a day on the desk.
What is the meta here? Do we all just grind it out to the VP/Principal level and then just do testosterone replacement therapy and a bit of steroids to get back in shape quick like Musk and Bezos?
I shifted from keeping gains to just doing enough to staying healthy. Like bare minimum shit. Forcing myself to go for a run or a swim at 2 AM was not fun.
It's really important to prioritize your health and figure out a way to make things work. You won't really feel it in the early years when you're young but the stress, lack of sleep and poor diet adds up quick and will really fuck you up. No bueno in the long term obviously but also stamina is key in our industry, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Eating clean and staying fit helps.
incoming intern in coverage at BB. I was wondering if is possible to get some sort of exercise as a intern, I know getting the return offer should be the priority, but I worked so hard to get my current physique and just dont wanna lose it. any advice + working out allows me to be productive afterwards as well (mentallay)
Both shitty options but work out before you start in the morning or after you're done late night. Appearances matter for summers/interns, too many goddamn hardos can't get it up unless they see you at your desk all hours of the day. See if you get discounted rates through your firm or if they have a gym in house.
Also eat as clean as you can.
Good news is you'll only suffer for a few months.
not enough to stay fit
I'm able to get 30-45 min of exercise everyday. It's easy when you're wfh and the days you go into the office everyone goes home around 7 so you can fit it in then. 30-45 min allows you to lift weights and do cardio everyday if you want. Then just be strict on your diet during the week/drink lots of water and you'll be fine. I also try to fit in a 15 min walk on top of that sometime during the day. Obviously there's a lot of days I can't, but usually I can 1-2 days a week. I think lack of sleep is when it gets hard, but you just have to at least go through the motions with your workout on those days. Make sure you try to maximize your sleep. This often means no netflix or socials in the evening before bed as that turns into 30-60 min you could be sleeping.
"sedentary"
thats how you know this fat fuck is dumber than a bag of bricks too LOL
Anyone have personal experience with standing desks? Is there any research that it is better for you? I'd like to get one as it appears to be healthier than sitting all day at least circulation wise, but wonder if there is evidence.
I’ve seen someone use a short treadmill-like thing with a standing desk. Keeps you moving so you don’t have to go for a run when works done, you can just walk when you have downtime/lighter work in WFH.
Great to do reading and review, not ideal to do actual Excel and PowerPoint work.
Generally positive and not super expensive.
You have time to hit the gym 4x a week as an analyst?
