Gap Year Class of 2022 (to become Class of 2023)

Hey everybody,

Currently a rising junior (class of 2022) at semi-target. Was planning to spend fall 2020-spring 2021 abroad at a top UK university (think LSE/Cambridge/UCL/Oxford) and really interested in this experience. Study abroad at my school has been canceled for fall 2020 and unsure if spring will be an option.

Now considering taking the year off and studying abroad fall 2021-spring 2022. Would graduate class of 2023. In year off, would hike the Appalachian Trail and maybe take the GMAT (mostly just for fun and to learn... I know I am young to take it but honestly not sure what else to do and interested in this). My justification for taking the year off would be because 1) I am passionate about this opportunity to study abroad and 2) school just won't be the same on campus this fall (and probably spring).

Have applied to a bunch of banks and networked with alumni. Seems like many SA 2021 interview processes won't kick off until later this month/early August. If I withdraw my applications now, would I still be able to apply for the following summer? If so, would I be at a disadvantage of any sort?

Would be interested in if anybody has any thoughts or if others are also in a similar position. Thanks!

you can still apply. I think it's also better if you want extra time to prepare. It's Covid so they will completely understand why you take a gap year. But make sure to check to someone about paperwork to see if there is any problem
