Ghosting informational calls

Hi fellow monkes, I'm an intern in Leveraged Finance in a MM firm, and I was trying to network with people from PE, and a person from the firm replied to my email, and later that person told me that it would call me during lunch break (any time between 1 and 2pm UKT). Never received a call. Followed up the next day, and got completely ghosted. It's been 2 weeks now.

Why do people agree to call, don't show up, and then ghost like that? Is it common?
