Got an internship after first semester as freshman. Next Step?

Hi all,

So I got an internship from Chicago at a search fund start-up. (Small private equity) I took my first semester here at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and got done with finals yesterday. I'm pursuing my IB role in Wall Street, what would be my next step? I'll be starting interning this June.

Thank you!

use this internship to help you get a better internship at an ibank for summer 2020. That process has already started...you should be applying now, for summer 2020 internships (i know, thats crazy...but they start early...and its to your benefit to apply early)

just google it...you're welcome

there are over 30+ investment banks...you should goto the website for each, find the summer internship section, and apply there. Take some time and put some effort into your application...the right internship can ultimately be worth millions of dollars in your career. I'd suggest getting some other people to help with your resume and application essays...

since you don't goto a target school, it will be harder for you to get into the best internships...so i suggest putting more than usual effort into this. its not about quantity of words in your essay...its about quality.

just google it...you're welcome

This advice is horrible. Not sure what this fool is on talking about writing essays for investment banking applications...

The real recruiting grind doesn't start till spring (and mid-end fall) of your sophomore year. Right now just try to prepare as best as you can for the upcoming internship and soak as much knowledge as you can. If you do well, the guys at your summer firm might even be able to introduce you to people they know at banks, and that'd be your perfect in.

BTW you don't need a bulge bracket IB internship your sophomore summer. It's ideal, but near impossible to get unless you're diversity/woman. Aim for anything related (IE. PE, asset management, vc, hedge fund) and preferably a local true boutique IB. However these positions are rarely advertised online - usually only OCR if anything, instead go to their websites/Linkedin and get in contact with them directly, or ask your friends in finance clubs if they know any local firms taking interns...
