History Majors at the Ivy’s

Hey all, was just curious why history majors tend to be so popular at the Ivy’s many times for people who go into finance (particularly Harvard and Yale)? Wanted to see if there was any particular correlation there. My guess is that it’s an interesting and softer subject that allows people to get higher GPA’s. But, would like to hear some input from people who likely have first-hand knowledge on the matter.

Much higher GPA in general for history (soft subject) compared to STEM subjects, which pulls you through recruiting. Fortunately the brand name + 3.9 GPA is sufficient to overlook history major in most cases.

It kind of is. I did a dual major program at Penn/Wharton and econ was much harder than my Wharton classes, for what it's worth.

I studied Econ and English at Penn and Econ was so easy. A lot of calculation/formulas, simple programming, and exams that were just like the practice tests. Plus, the curve was good because the competition was mostly Wharton rejects. My english courses on the other hand required me to be creative, reflect on readings, and build on speaking/writing skills.

I have more respect for history majors than STEM majors...History majors are always the best conversationalists and most well-educated/spoken people. You learn and read a shit ton, obviously. Kind of wish i took that path.
