How dangerous is it to do this?

I'm going to be calling a good family friend of mine who works at a BB private wealth management. I'm going to ask him if he knows any investment bankers I could get in contact with in the next few days. Would it be a bad idea to ask him if he knows any investment bankers at the other bulge brackets I could get in touch with?

Would it be a bad idea to ask him if he knows people in an industry in which you are interested? That is your question.

If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses - Henry Ford

I think you're going about it the wrong way. You shouldn't simply ask if they know any investment bankers. It makes it sound as though you don't have a clue what you're talking about. You should lead into the conversation by asking for general career guidance and then mention that you have an interest in investment banking. PWM folks are rarely going to cross paths with the investment banking personnel, but you never know.

Just don't get shot....

Be careful OP, if you do this...there is a legitimate chance that the fabric of space time will be ripped open.

Best of luck, be safe.

Please don't quote Patrick Bateman.

I read the title and thought you were gonna go into the drug smuggling business or something albeit that being safer than what you are trying to attempt........crazy man.

Ask him if he has friends at FO at his bank. It's unlikely but he might know someone he could refer you to. PWM rarely hang out with FO because their hours are much easier so they go home after 7PM.

I consider IB, ER and S&T FO, and PWM as a separe part of banks. I might be wrong though. Never worked in PWM or AM really.

Not trying to be condescending but no one gives a shit what you consider FO.

Actually they do. If enough people use a certain word or phrase to mean something different, that's how you end up with slang. That's also how you end up with shit like "selfie" in the dictionary.

  1. Make sure you call from a public pay phone
  2. Intentionally blur your name
  3. Cut the line if somebody approaches

Trust me. You will be safe.
