How do I escape VC and get into m&a /IB ?
I (M25) just finished a undergrad in econ at a tier 3 EU university. Have been working in a search fund and some startups. Currently working in a small VC with few learning ops. Literally just making slides all day not touching finance at all. Looking, to get into IB, m&a or advisory in general ( like in kroll or ey for example). Just got rejected from an excellent boutique ( where I killed the interview I might add). Looking for some reflection, to recalibrate my strategy. -Advice from my fellow monkeys is cherished. -
Why? Bonuses have been slashed, bankers are getting fired left right and center, competition is robust, and there isn’t much business going around. Do you actually want to do IB or do you want to just make consistent money?
Sounds like he wants the Finance experience and the long-term career progression, which is unmatched in IB.
What do you think you'll be doing in IB?
This… you will not be modeling to the extent you're assuming. Though, by the way you described your current role you’d at least have a better shot getting more technical opportunities in IB.
