How exactly is winter analyst recruitment structured?

I've noticed that many BBs have winter analyst jobs that are posted from time to time. Do you have to go to a regional school that is within a reasonable distance? When Is recruiting season for this?

I'm not familiar with a specific hiring season for winter grads. Most firms at most schools conduct full-time recruiting in the fall. It may just be a matter of going through that process and then trying to negotiate for an earlier start date. Depending on the firm's onboarding/training program, it may or may not be possible.

Tip: I wouldn't lead with this question at the information session. Recruiters sometimes avoid candidates who they know will need the process modified for them.

Go through the normal recruiting process and then ask if they can accommodate an earlier start date for you. At my firm, they have a January start date (a late start date for the previous spring's graduates). However, one of my colleagues was able to start in January right after he graduated. So, it is possible.

If not, do something else until the earliest start date!

This is great advice. If you're stuck waiting 9 months to start, do something cool. I know it will probably feel painful to not have a full income, but use it for a serious passion project. Move in with the parents, travel, get involved with an NGO or a community service org like Quarterback Social Impact. If you're an undergrad going to a consulting firm (like MBB) with a well-developed externship program, see if you can get in on that before your full-time start. Something like a rotation at Bridgespan (via Bain) would be pretty neat and a solid resume-builder.

I would definitely be interested in an experience like that. I'm already a commuter, so I rather leave home and experience something someplace far away if possible.

My advice is continue to email to people. Also email people that aren't your alumini either. I have had great success cold emailing and you are bound to get people asking for your resume.

Also if you got 3 replies from 75 emails thats good. You should be getting 5-10% of the people responding back.

For instance, I cold emailed around 5000 and got approx 450 responses back
