How important is your junior year internship? Is it possible to intern as a senior?
Basically, how strong is the connection between your junior year internship and your final offer/work placement? At the end of my sophomore year I had an internship lined up at a fairly large global asset management firm in Manhattan, but bc of covid they pushed the offer to this summer. Ideally I want to do investment banking with an international focus so I thought this would be a good starter, but I still applied for other positions. I ended up getting an offer in the JP Morgan IB/Corporate Markets Sales branch (not NYC) as well and now idk what the best career move is if I want to eventually end up in IB at a large bank. Say theoretically I did the JPM internship this summer going into my senior year, and then applied from scratch directly to the IB department for the summer of my senior year, are they less likely to take me bc they put resources into training me in sales? Would any bank even take a new intern on the summer that they graduate? Should I just go with the asset management firm and then try again directly applying to IB departments at large bank, or is applying as a senior without one of the largest bank names on your resume pointless?
Intern at JPM and do internal mobility at the end of the summer. If you have a strong GPA and network this should be fairly easy.
Keep the AM firm on your resume for now, just one line with (canceled due to COVID-19). That's acceptable given circumstances, and adds another name brand to your resume which is helpful for IB.
