How is Investment Banking Different from Traditional Business Operations?

Hi everyone, happy July. The title of this post captures what I'm interested in learning - how is Investment Banking different from regular business operations? What is different about the jobs on a day-to-day basis? I know what a banker does; however, I want to know if the repetitive nature of business operations is similar in investment banking? I don't have experience in banking, so I am not sure!

I am curious because I am currently in my freshman summer and I have a business operations internship... (it was all I could manage to get) and am interested in banking. Additionally, my older brother was recently fortunate enough to quit his job which was in business operations and pursue his own business full-time. He said this was a blessing because he felt trapped in the repetitive nature of his old job and now there is more diversity in his work.

That said, I am wondering if the day-to-day procedures of being a banker significantly differ from those of someone working a back office job? Does being a banker involve more variety and diverse work? Is it more exciting or "fun"? I do not know!

Thank you for any responses!
