How much did you summer interns save this year?

Know most people’s summer stints are wrapping up, curious how much everyone was able to save this year. Mostly curious about NY/SF but any datapoints are welcome. If you managed to save a lot, any tips?

Also, what’s y’all’s perspective on blowing all your SA money or saving it?

I blew all mine on a trip to France lol.

I do recognize I come from a slightly more privileged background. My parent paid for all of my tuition without loan and I didn’t need to pay rent in my internship.

That's not just "slightly" more privileged

12k. I’m international so wasn’t paying social security or medicaid tax. Gonna wait for that sweet tax return next year

Damn 12k sounds good. Were you purposely trying to save as much as you could?

I saved around 3.5k last year which was pretty low, spent a bunch of shoes/clothes. Ended up spending the rest and more on a housing deposit and a europe trip before I started, best decision of my life.

How much less would you have saved if you weren’t international? Also how did you manage to save so much? Did you go out for drinks and shop less or something?

I saved on some of the deductions I believe but am not 100% sure about the American tax system, just know my paycheck came out slightly more than my domestic peers. I went out and cooked most of the meals that are comped by the firm (buy 2 meals for dinner on seamless and weekend meals are comped). I also paid less than 1.5k a month in rent because we had a bunch of roommates.

Around 10K, had rent paid by family as a gift so that was amazing help and otherwise didn’t have much time to spend it.

Gonna invest the rest and maybe YOLO 1K in intraday options
