I can't be exact, but have you already signed a lease for an apartment and such? I moved to Philly (not NYC, but rough guide) and I needed around 5-6K. That got my apartment (1st,Last, Security), food, furniture, etc. Plus you are going to want some money because you are not going to get paid right away. Always have a nice cushion because the last thing you are going to want your first week on the job is to be sucking wind and starving.
