How to break into Investment banking industry?

I am currently working at EY in financial performance improvement division and am trying to make the switch into M&A banking. I have been supporting projects which involve multiple company consolidations (post acquisition) from an operational finance perspective. While the work is interesting to me I am interested in switching into the financial services industry. I base my desire to work somewhere on the following three criteria: 1) The types of experiences I am getting 2) How many hours I am working 3) How much money I am being compensated

As of now I am only able to say that I am satisfying one of those criteria in my current position (the experiences are good but very long hours and sub-par pay). I believe switching into investment banking will have me satisfy two of the three criteria (experiences and compensation). While I understand you should not switch careers solely for money I am interested in switching because I believe my compensation should be reflective of the amount of time and effort I put into my work and compared to my peers in IB it is lacking.

Does anyone have advice on a strategy to switch my career path trajectory into IB?
