How to get a Fall/Spring Internship
I'm entering my sophomore year of university (decently ranked non-target school) this Fall. I know it's a long-shot, but I really hope to break into IB (preferably a BB). I have one summer internship under my belt at a boutique private equity firm. Should I be actively seeking out Fall/Spring internships to boost my resume for IB recruiting or should I take it slow and focus on school (GPA, classes, student orgs, volunteering, etc)?
If I SHOULD seek out an internship for Fall/Spring, how do I go about it? Cold calling/emailing? Formal applications or shot-in-the-dark internship requests? What kind of firms (boutique IBs, boutique PEs, non-finance firms like startups, etc.)? How would my work-hours be structured around classes (only on weekends, half-days, etc)? Should I settle with an unpaid position? If I'm missing any variables please let me know. Any and all advice is appreciated!
