How to lateral without sell-side experience?
Hi, I'm currently an IBD analyst at a small boutique looking to lateral to a larger bank. However, I always get rejected on the basis of not having sell-side experience.
A) Could someone please provide details on why sell-side M&A is the most important experience to have on the CV and B) how I could overcome this for lateral roles? C) what can I learn in my spare time to compete with those who have the experience.
My boutique focuses on buy-side M&A, so I've had a good amount of experience with this which is mainly financial modelling putting together DCFs and LBOs etc so I am confident in this area but what am I missing from the sell-side?
The only things I can think of are: 1) putting together the timelines/having experience with the process (as you never put together timelines on buy-side) 2) experience with data room 3) putting together the IM
