Context: was an MBA Summer Associate at a smaller EB (e.g., PWP, Greenhill) so can give my 2 cents:

1) Attitude - this will trump almost everything else.  If you come in with a hard-working and humble outlook then a lot of the people that work with you will ultimately be rooting for you over the course of your internship

2) Coachability - can you take feedback and then implement it?  Obviously this is tough over an 8-10 week internship but demonstrating receptiveness to feedback will go a long way

3) Technical acumen - you don't have to know everything (and no one certainly expects you to), but you do need to have some baseline with Excel and PowerPoint.  To that end, MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR WORK (something I'm still working on myself).  Little mistakes from carelessness bother people more than anything else.  If you're not comfortable with either platform, this will probably yield some of the biggest ROIs for summer prep

4) Keep up to date on the markets - it's always good to have an opinion on things

5) RELAX - your summer will be an 8-10 week sprint.  Make sure you recharge your batteries and have a few hobbies outside of work.  At the end of the day, you're working with people for 12-15 (sometimes more) hours a day and they'll want someone they can shoot the breeze with

On top of what the other person said: PPT is just a method to tell a story.  Putting together a ppt that follows a logical path is what matters most.

My other advice would be:

-ask for examples from other decks.  By and large, you’re not going to be asked to create anything new

-learn auto align

-make sure font and sizing is correct across everything

-make sure slides don’t “dance” from one to the other
