How to Start Studying Technicals?
I have a basic background in accounting but no other real relevant knowledge for interviews. What should I be doing to get started studying on my own? What guides or courses would you recommend to someone who is effectively a total beginner? Thanks!
M&I 400 question guide. All the basic sections, advanced sections are not relevant for entry level interviews. Also make sure you understand the concept rather than memorizing the answer if some elements of the question change.
^this and can't say enough how many times I have seen interviewees memorize answers and then we ask one questions that deeper of off script and shit falls apart.
.
Omg this is exactly what I was going to say. I didn't even know about the guides in the beginning and practiced through a bunch of models. I encourage everyone to made a couple DCF's on real companies - NOT a play DCF with an imaginary company. Using a real 10-K gives you better intuition on how to handle random-ass items on a IS/BS/CFS.
i had the same question. best advice i’ve received, “keep reading, if you don’t get it keep reading. then reread” after about a few days or weeks. things should tik and tie.
try to make a complete valuation of a company, dcf, comps, and precedents. Do this without templates and you have a very good understanding of what is going on, and then study the guide. If you start by doing something, you will understand many of the concept better, and studying will be easier
Great advice. Thanks for the idea—seems like a really good one.
Read Rosenbaum and Pearl (until you understand it) then get cracking on the 400. If you only do the 400 I can almost guarantee you will fumble any question that deviates from that list
