How to use "awesome" connects

I interned this past summer at a Corp in Chicago, mostly focused on 401k plans. Due to the nature of the work, my bosses had connects at Goldman, blackjack, you name it. The problem is I can't ask "who do you know, refer me there please!" he woul love to refer me he said, I just don't know what or when to ask.

Also, my sisters friend works as a consultant now (just started) but also has connections with cool companies along the lines of Facebook, google. I cant ask her for all of these right?

Last, my cold emails earlier are good so any idea when to follow up? Thanks all!!

This really should be intuitive, but explain to him what you want to do and the steps that you need to take to get there. If its getting an internship for junior year (idk where you're at, but just bear with me for the example) tell him you want to work in IBD, that you 'have' to have an internship to break in, and that you know recruiting is tough so you need to apply to as many places as possible. Let him know that you're open to BB and middle-market firms and give a few b/s reasons for why to each. That way you can maximize the amount of contacts he shares with you.

Honestly though, this shouldn't have even been a question or saved till the end, it would have been more useful to share something along the way to indicate your intentions so by the end they would have had contacts prepped or a sit down to discuss options.

Plus, I'd like it if you held off on recruiting; -1 would help me in the Chi offices :)

Asking for help should be ok, especially if a few of them liked you enough to be giving candid advice about the firm. Just explain what you want to do- if you can't do it at their firm, they will help you out at another firm. This is coming from a junior mentor in a similar situation at a bank- if one of my (good) mentees came and asked me for help with my friends at another firm- especially if they weren't a direct competitor- I'd do what I could to help.

People toe the company line in the early stages of recruiting largely because HR controls that part. But at work, folks feel a sense of loyalty to friends and coworkers rather than companies. Often entire divisions will switch firms at the same time- staying loyal to an MD rather than a corporation. So as long as you're not going to be in direct competition with their coworkers- or maybe even if you are- it is probably best to let them know and ask for their help.
