How would you feel in this scenario?

A former colleague of mine recently accepted a meaningful role at a new company, which I found out about via a press release. This person was fired from their previous company (where we were colleagues) after it was discovered they were trying to steal company information and share it with competitors. In the press release they specifically mention that their departure was their choice and was for personal reasons (they wax poetically about the reasons they stepped away, and it's very compelling). Meanwhile, I, and all their former colleagues know the true reason.

To be clear, I'm not going to do anything about it and it's really none of my business, but I can't help but feel irked about how this is all being presented. The right answer is just ignore it and go about my business, which I'll ultimately do, but I'm curious how you'd react?

Edit: I should also point out that it is not a case of jealousy, I was very junior and this person was very senior when we worked together, which is to say that we are at vastly different points in our career.

Is this person a senior? Pretty common for this type of messy departure to end gracefully - basic reason is old company gains nothing from publicly firing the person except ruining their career, and they can agree on $0 severance if they keep it quiet. The long, detailed note on personal reasons for departure is odd, but whatever.

Also, if they're in IB/S&T/any other FINRA regulated industry, firing more or less ends their career as it's extremely public

Unless this person wronged you in some way, probably best to leave it alone.

That being said, if you’re petty, a couple of anonymous emails to their new firm won’t be hy big of a deal either.

Do what you feel man.
