IBD application at Bank of America with no updates

Hello everyone,

Last October, I applied for an IBD Analyst 1 position in London at Bank of America. On November 20th, I had my first interview. This was followed three weeks later by the second-round interview, which consisted of an assessment center with three consecutive interviews. Finally, on December 13th, I had the last interview with the Head of IBD for that specific industry. Overall, I had a great experience and believe they did as well.

However, as of January 13th—one month later—I have not received any updates from the bank or anyone I interviewed with. I still receive notifications that my application is under review.

I reached out to the HR manager overseeing the process to express my continued interest in the position and to inquire about any updates. She mentioned that the manager responsible for the process had just returned to work after being absent and would be in touch soon. The manager was copied in the email, but as of today—five days later—I have not received any further updates.

Does this indicate that I may have been dropped, and should I move on?

Thank you for your insights, everyone.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for delays in communication during the hiring process, especially around the holiday season or when key decision-makers are unavailable. The fact that your application is still marked as "under review" and that HR responded to your inquiry suggests that you are still in consideration. However, the lack of updates after a final interview can understandably be frustrating.

Here’s what you can do:

  1. Follow Up Again: Since the HR manager mentioned the responsible manager had just returned, it’s reasonable to follow up politely after a week or so. Reiterate your interest in the role and inquire if there’s any additional information they need from you.

  2. Keep Networking: Reach out to any connections you may have at Bank of America or within the industry. Sometimes, internal advocates can provide insights or even nudge the process along.

  3. Continue Applying Elsewhere: While waiting, it’s wise to keep applying to other opportunities. This ensures you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket and keeps your momentum going.

  4. Be Patient but Proactive: Hiring processes, especially for competitive roles like IBD Analyst positions, can take time. However, staying proactive with follow-ups and exploring other options will keep you prepared for any outcome.

Delays don’t necessarily mean rejection, but it’s always good to have a backup plan. Good luck!

If the manager just came back from vacation after holidays and it's only 5 days, i wouldn't worry too much? they likely have hundreds of other emails to sort through.

that being said, don't consider something done until you have a written offer in hand. Anything can be dropped anytime. Focus your energy on other applications or hobbies or anything else. You followed up once already (which is good) and the manager is aware you followed up.
