In a Bit of a Pickle

Hi yall, i am in a bit of a pickle

During college i SAed at a solid m&a group in the west coast. One of the UMM banks, doing mostly blue chip deals

It was intense like rlly intense so i recruited ft. I wanted to gtfo and took on a solid lmm bank back where i grew up. There were lots of reasons why i chose this place. Culture, comp, wlb etc. was almost too good to be true. But then i hated the lmm work like its brain dead.

So i recruited and got a solid offer from a pe backed company for corp strategy. Perfect location, good comp and interesting work. Then i got tht offer rescinded cuz trump got elected lol the company redid their budget and stopped all hiring. There are more complications here that i wouldn't dive deeper in this post

Long story short i was jobless. I got some decent offers shortly. One offer was a private company valued at 400b (this prob gives it away lol) for their finance team. They had ex gs and mbb guys and pe vps lol super high caliber. SHIT comp and recruiter casually said that their team all used to work 120+ hrs at their previous job and now enjoy 60 hrs 🤣🤣

So i did the dumbest thing ever and took on a remote ib job. And holy it has been great the autonomy i operated at i felt like i was learning a lot more thn in my first gig then reality hit. Ive become very lazy and the org is very very dysfunctional all around lol there is no future here

Im now seeing my friends go to pe or exit to top tier companies. I feel like i gave up way too early and wanna go back. Currently its looking dim i genuinely dont think i can land a top ib from my current job. It will be 2 more laterals and 3+ years from now to get a mf/umm. I hate lmm and dont wanna bother with lmm pe.

Sorry if i come iff as entitled im just ranting💀

What I’m not hearing is your long-term vision. All these moves are opening chess plays and none are “bad” in isolation. But which one is best depends on your endgame. Where do you actually want to be at 40, 50, 60? Answer that first, then reverse engineer. Some doors have closed but plenty are open.
