Info Interviews with Former MDs?
I'm currently a sophomore at a non-target trying to ramp up my networking efforts. Besides cold emailing, I've been trying to find/leverage any internal connections I might have by asking family/friends for contacts, and my parents let me know of a couple former MDs at top firms who they knew. Obviously it would be a no-brainer to reach out to these guys if they still worked at their firms, but they have since moved on to top PE shops and other companies.
Is it appropriate to reach out to these people asking about their former firms? Is it appropriate to ask them if they remember anyone who they think I should talk to? Do former MDs have have any leverage, even if informal, in their past firm's recruiting process?
Thanks
Zero downside to asking them for a 15 chat for advice on how to break into banking.
At worst, they give you generic advice.
At best, they get you an interview at their current firm, previous firm or a firm they know is looking.
Can senior bankers really carve out 15 minutes out of their day to talk to a random college kid? I thought they're on the clock 24 7
I’ve networked with multiple MD’s during undergrad. A lot of them were super helpful with recruiting and had great advice! Even forwarded my resume and set up interviews. This doesn’t apply to everyone obvs, but there are a lot of nice people out there and people like giving back because they were also in your position at one time.
