Interviewed at smaller firm, haven't heard back..?

Hi,

I know there are many of these posts on this forum but almost all of them are of BB in the US and/or superdays. I'm in my late 20's and currently work at a HF as a PM but am working on switching over to M&A/advisory (..don't ask, lol). I've interviewed at a few IB's and PE's so far with decent success. I've got through to the final stage and either waitlisted/rejected there.

Anyway, currently I'm interviewing at a smaller firm. They have 5 people total and are currently working on 8 deals according to them. Again, I got to the 4th interview where I passed the technical skills, few phone interviews, and the last one was an in-person with the president and the senior analyst. They both seemed very impressed. Nodding a lot, we got along great, saying "i like that answer", the president even said "wow this process is fuckin over" like 3x (implying the search process is over). I got a cold feeling at the end of the interview from them for some reason but whatever. I emailed them thank you's and the president responded in 5min saying "Was great meeting you, we'll be in touch after we've gone through all the other candidates" and the senior analyst responded saying they'll let me know the next steps shortly (implying there are next steps?). Anyway, it's been a week since I've heard from them. I know they're super busy with so few people and so many deals but seriously, what gives? They don't have an HR department or anything so it's kind of an informal process but I'd love to leave my current job ASAP and this process has dragged on for a month (first interview was a 4 weeks ago..).

If I'm going to send a followup email today, do I email the President or the analyst? I definitely had more rapport with the president, analyst only asked me like two questions and the rest of the time he was just taking notes and it was me and president speaking. Any advice on how to proceed? What to say in followup?

Thanks!
