Investment Bank Research Division

Hi I am Sarah,

I was a mathematics and quantitative economics major from college. I am really interested in Investment banking and I've researched that all the banks have research functions.

e.g.

http://www2.goldmansachs.com/services/research/gi…

What do you think the salary of members in the research functions at IB's? Do you think they would go for some one with experience from the Federal Reserve (either BOG or NY) which is a primary economic research institution and Monetary policy setter?

Thank you for all the help :)

1) Yes many (not all) banks have independent research desks 2) Research is NOT investment banking, the two are VERY different 3) Salaries in reasearch (for analysts) are typically comprised of a higher base and lower bonus (not 100% on this) 4) The background seems great, but typically research analysts have some experience in capital markets. A lot of them also have their CFAs, which I strongly recommend if you want to do research

Hope this helped somewhat...
