Is It Possible? Non traditional background

Hi. So I know that it is uncommon but I decided to go back to university in hopes of making into IB or S&T. I'm 27 at the current moment and will be 30 by the time I get my degree in math/ finance from a european university. I stopped going to school because I worked in a funeral home and became the MD. That helped me to get confidence in talking to customers and to get strong in sales. I also handled all the arrangements for burial and funeral services of the deceased, in accordance with the family's wishes. I performed a wide variety of duties, such as planning and allocating the resources of the funeral home, managing staff, and handling marketing and public relations. I gained knowledge of financial statements, accounting. I've always wanted to be a banker or investor but I got side tracked and was wondering if it is still possible to break into it after I graduate? What job would suit me? Which division could be a good fit?

You definitely have more experience in financial planning and that sounds what you are interested in. Plus you also have actual managerial experience. Banking has more to do with forecasting and valuation while S&T has more to do with understanding the market. If hedge funds and private equity are your end goal you should go to banking.

You seem like you'd be best at FP&A (financial planning and analysis). If you really want to go into financial services I would go with IB/PE over S&T/HF because it's less concerned about market movements and more about actual business.

Honestly, if you’re studying Math and you like math/programming/statistics, it will probably be much easier to win offers at quant funds, and unlike IB/PE, they don’t require multiple previous internships and so on, just raw ability. If you really want to go into finance IB or S&T Sales would be a good fit. Maype PE in the long term.

Your age doesnt matter bro. As long as you got a high gpa, go to a good school, and network, you should get interviews
