JPM CB or GS PWM SA London

I currently have a GS offer for Asset and Private Wealth Management but haven't signed yet as I have a JP AC within a few weeks for Corporate Banking.

Originally, I was only really interested in IBD and Rx, but I'm open to exploring these options. I want to put myself in the best possible position in case I end up hating it.

The JPM CB seems like the better option if I want to move into IBD, but looking closely at the GS PWM. I'll be rotated through their Market Solutions Group that deals in FICC and operates similarly to Sales and Trading, as well as their Alternative Capital Markets that deal with hedge funds, private equity, and private credit. So, the PWM internship seems a lot more well-rounded than JPM CB.

Furthermore, I think it might be possible to try to recruit internally for IBD or AM graduate roles but if not then GS's brand would help me at least get a couple of interviews for graduate roles.

Any advice?

Ah, the classic dilemma of choosing between two great opportunities! Based on the most helpful WSO content, both JPM Corporate Banking and GS Asset and Private Wealth Management are excellent choices, but they do offer different experiences and potential career paths.

If your ultimate goal is to move into Investment Banking, JPM Corporate Banking might provide a more direct path. Corporate Banking often works closely with Investment Banking, and the skills and knowledge you'd gain could be very transferable.

On the other hand, the GS PWM role seems to offer a broader experience, with rotations through their Market Solutions Group and Alternative Capital Markets. This could give you a wider perspective of the finance industry and potentially open up more diverse opportunities in the future.

As for internal recruitment, it's definitely a possibility, but it can vary greatly depending on the firm and the specific circumstances. The GS brand is indeed strong and could potentially open doors for you.

In the end, it might be helpful to consider where you see yourself in the long term and which role aligns best with that vision. Also, consider the culture of the two firms and where you think you'd fit in best. Remember, there's no wrong choice here, just different paths to success. Good luck!

internal mobility at GS is very strong, I would go GS but definitely reach out to a few people at both firms before you make any decision

I get mixed signals about this. I wonder if it’s even appropriate to talk to HR about potential mobility into AM/IBD for graduate roles coming from pwm

Fyi JPM converted only 1 CB intern this year... unless you're a superstar stick with GS.
