JPM groups ranked by PE exits
I know that during placement, you pick your top 3 groups. Number 1 will be M&A because why not worth a shot. 2. Will be Industrials as I have a passion for that sector. What should my 3rd be? I hate HC, so that's out. I'm bouncing between Tech and levfin. Are there any other group recommendations?
bump hows FIG?
Easily top of street in deal flow 2nd or tied for 1st for exits with GS. Long term will be number 1 for exits and deal flow. Although culture is horrible and so are hours. Nearly guaranteed MF exits
Can I ask why that is not in your top choice? I just ended up networking with that group when I was doing my recruiting, so I am going to make it my top choice as well because I liked the people. I don't know much about PE recruitment, but won't the fact that the group does FIG or non-EBITDA business limit my options? I am also for a state non-target school.
Just focus on M&A/industrials. DI is a good group with lots of different verticals you can explore. Don't like how you're phrasing it because PE exits are far more based on you as a person and as an interviewer if you already have the JPM brand umbrella. But to be helpful if thinking about it from a reps POV go with FSG or SLF.
Am a first year at the bank in one of the product groups aforementioned.
I'm guessing longterm experience in SLF would be more useful? FSG definitely adds value but doesn't sound like a great junior experience especially lacking hard skills that will transfer to PE.
Also can you give insight on how networking effects recruiting at JPM have heard too many conflicting stories.
SLF will get you a very useful/transferrable technical credit skillset. JPM Levfin is also top of the street. FSG gets you more "sponsor process exposure" which can be murky. But definitely an easy pipeline into a fund of your choice as well.
Confused why you're asking to networking if already going thru group placement at the bank. But a definitive answer for all on this forum is below: HR is very independent and hands-on with the recruiting process, but there are individual group staffers that will be in close comms with them for hiring needs. So networking can definitely help accelerate that but it is ultimately up to HR to make any and all final decisions re: early careers recruiting. Different for post-MBA.

Off topic, but how does networking help for landing an internship in an investment firm? Trying to land one, I've been trying to have conversations with associates and VPs in some groups mentioned above, but how does that help or not help for recruiting? I am doing HR-focused specific networking for those that I am interested in. Does that help?
It can help in the actual interview for why this firm being able to say I spoke to so and so and loved X. And obv if your speaking to the staffer they can push your resume get you the superday.
