Lateral Hire Post Final Round Timeline

Hi all,

Currently in the process of trying to lateral to a bulge (A2) Have completed 6 rounds of interviews, including technical assessment and met the head of the group.

Following these interviews HR asked me for terms of notice, working rights, non-compete etc at my current role.

They followed up saying they will be in touch? has been over a week since I provided these documents

Am I just being kept warm?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's not uncommon for firms to take some time after final rounds, even after requesting additional details like notice periods, working rights, and non-compete agreements. Here's what might be happening:

  1. Internal Approvals: After final rounds, especially for lateral hires, the team may need to secure internal approvals, such as budget sign-offs or headcount confirmations. This can take time, particularly in larger organizations.

  2. Comparing Candidates: Even if you've made it far, the firm might still be evaluating other candidates or waiting for feedback from all interviewers before making a final decision.

  3. HR Processes: HR might be conducting background checks or verifying the information you've provided. This step can sometimes delay the process.

  4. "Kept Warm" Scenario: While it's possible you're being kept as a backup, the fact that they've asked for specific details like your notice period and non-compete suggests genuine interest. However, delays can occur if they're waiting on other candidates or internal decisions.

What You Can Do:

  • Follow Up: If it's been over a week, it's reasonable to send a polite follow-up email to HR or your point of contact. Reiterate your interest in the role and inquire about the timeline for next steps.
  • Stay Patient: While waiting can be frustrating, delays are common in lateral hiring processes. Use this time to prepare for potential negotiations or other opportunities.

Remember, lateral processes can vary widely by firm, but staying proactive and professional will always work in your favor. Good luck!

You won’t hear until 2026. HR is probably busy with other things, especially if this is for MS
