Lateral out of S&T

I'm currently a first year S&T analyst at a BB and I'm looking to move over into IB. I understand that my firm allows good performers to move to a 1st year role in the IB after 2 years in S&T but I'd rather not wait that long.

I'm planning on reaching out to alums at other banks and hopefully interviewing soon so I can roll in with the 1st years next summer.

Any advice on how I should approach this? I assume I can reach out to the HR staff in charge of the standard university recruiting as well right?
